POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Tennis directly reports to the General Manager. This individual will supervise the pro-shop attendants, Pro-Shop Manager, assistant tennis professionals, camp counselors, and court maintenance personnel. The position is a department head, senior manager within the Club organization and works closely with all Club department heads to ensure the successful operation of the Club. This individual will organize and direct all tennis activities, events, exhibitions, tournaments and lessons. This position will be responsible for budget preparation and control, staffing, Men’s and Women’s Tennis Associations, and the Tennis Committee. The position is one of high interaction with all department leaders requiring a strong personal and professional presence. Effective communication skills are critical along with the ability to be clear, concise, positive, creative, energized and passionate about the financial position of the Club, and ways to improve the operation through supporting departments with timely, accurate and useful information as it relates to tennis. Development and mentorship of staff supporting professional development of the team is imperative. An appropriate balance representing the Club in an ambassadorship role outside the Club and appropriate professional organizations is expected.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations:

  • Plans and directs instructional programs.
  • Provides lessons and clinics relating to the techniques and strategies of tennis to members and guests.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs tournaments, exhibitions, and club social events.
  • Administers and enforces club tennis policies and procedures regarding play on the courts.
  • Strings racquets and performs other light equipment repairs.
  • Purchases and maintains adequate beverage inventory.
  • Sells beverages to members and guests.
  • Coordinates maintenance, repair and cleaning of courts with grounds and maintenance departments.
  • Writes and edits all tennis-related news for the club newsletter.
  • Selects, trains, Supervises: and evaluates all tennis department staff.
  • Manages the tennis shop.
  • Develops the budget for the tennis profit center; takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met.
  • Ensures that all club members and guests receive courteous, prompt and professional attention to all their tennis needs.
  • Markets tennis facilities to members and guests.
  • Develops a detailed annual calendar of tennis activities and applicable promotion materials throughout the year.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with other club professionals.
  • Attends all staff and management meetings.
  • Inspects and maintains all physical areas constantly.
  • Participates on all committees related to the tennis operation.
  • Represents the club in area professional tennis activities and at state or national tennis events with approval from the club.
  • Assists Catering Director, Chef, and Banquet Managers to coordinate food and beverage service Support for tennis events.
  • Ensures that all employees consistently comply with club’s employee manual and with all applicable federal and state employment laws.
  • Perform all work related duties as assigned by supervisor or General Manager
  • Review timecards the end of each week and approve by the following Monday morning for payroll purposes.
  • Enter updated weekly schedules on Fridays for upcoming week.
  • Daily review of department timecards and make necessary adjustments for absences, missed punches etc. according to club policies and procedures.
  • Planning event dates with next President
  • Coordinate with tennis, swimming and golf on calendars
  • Assist with new member reception tours
