Job Description & Requirements:

The hiring range is $20.07 to $25.59 an hour.The Tennis Instructor will teach a variety of classes and skills to participants; responsible for planning, instructing and supervising a specialized class or program that requires advanced certification or skill. Instruction may target individuals or groups across the age and ability spectrum.  Willing and able to work morning weekday hours when the majority of Tennis classes are scheduled, however scheduling and hours of work may vary as classes are self-supporting, and funding comes from participant fees.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Organizes and instructs a specialized recreation class, developing specific program outcomes. Ensures that participants in the class are engaged and that the class abides by industry standards. Motivates all participants to accomplish their personal goals. Explains and demonstrates activity techniques to class participants. Prepares instructional materials and supplies. Sets up and cleans up room/area. Enforces safety and other rules and regulations; maintains order and discipline. Responsible for keeping accurate records, including incident/accident reports, time records, and attendance. Notify Program/Facility manager of all equipment needs or safety hazards/replacement equipment. Demonstrates positive customer service skills when communicating with participants, parents and staff. Stays current on industry standards and their influence upon desired outcomes. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of one year of experience instructing the specialized class/skill OR three years of experience participating at a high level in the specialized skill/class in a competitive, organized environment. Education Qualifications: - Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.Willing and able to work morning weekday hours when the majority of Tennis classes are scheduled, however scheduling and hours of work may vary as classes are self-supporting, and funding comes from participant fees.

Skills:

Thorough knowledge of professional behavior in a recreation environment; ability to maintain order among participants; to instruct participants with different learning styles. Must be able to demonstrate positive customer service skills when communicating with participants, parents and staff. Must have a strong safety orientation. Must be able to think independently and develop routines for teaching specific exercise classes.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Standard teaching environment. Must be comfortable with personal contact with participants in a teaching environment while maintaining a professional demeanor. Must be able to create, execute, lead, and observe recreation activity/programs as well as answer questions, concerns and complaints from participants and their guardians. Conditions could include some heavy lifting. Hours will vary.
